Heating Homes of the Future

The new Part L insists on higher performance targets in both new and existing homes.
Amongst these performance criteria, CO2 emissions should be reduced by 31% for dwellings and maximum flow temperatures should not exceed 55°C.
These are an interim step towards the Future Homes Standard and Future Buildings Standard, which outline even more rigorous guidance and are due to arrive in 2025.
So, from specifiers, to housebuilders, to merchants, to installers and end-users, everyone in the industry must ensure that they have a solid understanding of the regulations.

Building regulations, made simple
In the past, we have been able to install and retrofit to older versions of the regulations for some time after updates are published. However, this has now been tightened up.
Homes with planning approval under the older regulations need to be started within 12 months of the regulations coming into force, which takes us to June 2023. This means that all projects will need to adhere to the guidance in Part L in just a few months’ time.
